# What is 3/16 as a decimal?

## Remember

Every fraction has two parts in it- numerator and denominator. The number on the top is the numerator and the number at the bottom is the denominator.

Fractions can also be written in decimal form for more accurate and easier calculations.

To convert any fraction to its decimal form, the numerator is divided by the denominator.

Here the numerator is 3 and the denominator is 16.

To find the decimal form of the fraction, divide 3 by 16.

Note that when the divisor is greater than the dividend, it is not possible to divide. Hence we place a decimal point in the quotient to add 0 to the dividend to continue the division.

This is called the long division method.

Let us find the decimal form of the given fraction using the long division method.

The zeros in red are the zeros added in order to make the division possible. This is done after adding a decimal point to the quotient.
Continue the division method till the remainder arrived at is zero.

Hence the decimal form of the given fraction is 0.1875.
