Overview

Coins help us buy things. Each coin has a different value. Its value is how much it is worth.

Some coins are worth more money than other coins.

In the picture below, you will see the coins you need to be familiar with: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar, and dollar.

We can count and add coins.
We can subtract them too.
We can add money in word problems.

Let’s practice!

How much money does she have altogether?

There is 1 quarter, 2 dimes, and 1 nickel in the picture.

25 + 10 + 10 + 5 = 50 cents!

How much money does she have in all?

There is 1 quarter, 2 dimes, and 2 nickels in the picture above.

25 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 5 = 55 cents
