Overview

We can measure to figure out how long or short something is.

Think about what tool helps us to measure how long or short something is. If you are thinking about a ruler, you would be right!

A ruler helps us measuring an object in inches or centimeters.

In this lesson, we will actually be talking about measuring lengths with objects (and not rulers).

We can use other objects to help us measure and compare.
Sometimes we measure in UNITS.

It can help us to see how long the object is.
How long is the shoe?

The shoe is about 3 units long.

You can try measuring with your own unit of measurement.
For example, you can use a paper clip to measure objects!

Measure your pencil with a paperclip.

Some things are much longer than others.
