We can represent three-dimensional figures on coordinate planes using nets. Nets are made up of rectangles and triangles. They help us calculate the surface area

For example…

We can draw the cube as a two-dimensional shape using graph paper. Draw the shape as if it were lying flat and open.

Find the area of each part of the shape. Then add all of the areas together.

For this example, each shape is a square. The formula for finding the area of a square is area = (side)2. However, by using graph paper, we can simply count the units in each square.
