We can use these formulas to find the area of other shapes as well.
For example…
Find the area of the trapezoid.

First decompose the shape into 2 triangles and 1 rectangle.

Next find the area of the triangles and the rectangle separately.

Triangle 1	Rectangle	Triangle 2
(2)(5) = 5	(6)(5) = 30	(2)(5) = 5

Next, add the areas together.

5 + 30 + 5 = 40

a = 40 ✓
