Finding Volume

Overview

There are two different formulas for finding the volume of a rectangular prism.
If we know the height and the area of the base of the rectangular prism, we can use
Formula 1.

If we know the length, width, and height of the rectangular prism, then we can use
Formula 2.

We can use these formulas to determine the volume of rectangular prisms with
fractional sides.
For example…

Step 1: Choose a formula

We don’t know the area of the base, but we do know the length, width, and height
of the rectangular prism. That means we need to use Formula 2.

volume = (length)(width)(height)

Step 2: Plug & solve

Plug the length, width, and height into the formula and solve

Step 3: Simplify
If necessary, simplify the solution.
