Overview

Counting while handing out items is an important skill! We must count and hand out cards for games like “Uno” and “Go Fish.” We also count while handing out money. If you are a kind friend, you may find yourself counting while you hand out candies or toys. Can you think of other times when you count the items that you hand out?

Using stickers lets us practice counting while we hand out items. Then we check our work by counting the stickers the same way that we count using dots. What a fun way to improve our fine motor skills while practicing our counting!

Here you will learn how to count using stickers! First let’s review our numbers from 1 to 20.

Now that we remember our numbers, let’s try counting some stickers!

Counting using stickers is a great way to practice our numbers and counting items accurately. Stick one sticker on the paper as we say one number. Once we are done, we can count our stickers to check our work.

Practice Question 1

This box needs 5 stickers put inside it. Sam was very careful as he counted each sticker and placed it in the box, but he is not sure if he got it right. Can you count the stickers to check his work? Did he get this one correct?

You can pull out your own stickers and try putting 5 in a box to see if yours matches Sam’s. We will need to count Sam’s stickers to check his work. Be sure to work from left to right and top to bottom.

Let’s try it!
– We count each sticker in the box by saying one number as we point at each sticker. Count the top row of stickers first. Remember to go slow and count each sticker with one number.

The stickers can be any shape, color, or size. We just need to be sure to say exactly one number for each sticker.

If you don’t have your own stickers, you can use any object. Just draw a box on a piece of paper and place the correct number of objects in each box as you count them out. Small erasers and baskets, cups, or bowls also work well to practice counting while handing out items.
