It is 22 degrees outside. You watch the weatherman, and you learn that the temperature is going to drop 2 degrees every day until it gets to zero degrees. This does not sound like it is going to be a pleasant week.
However, you need to know how many days you have before it will reach zero. Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, this has to do with factoring. You could subtract two each day and get your answer. Then count how many times it would take.
Factoring is much better. It makes this process a lot easier and faster to find the answer.
First, you will need to understand the factoring process by finding the factors of 22.
So, the first thing you do is to write down the first factors. These are factors for all numbers. That would be one and itself.
We could write them in a set of parentheses as shown above. This will make it easier to keep track of all of our factors. Next, we know that 22 is an even number. So, I will divide 2 into 22 to get 2’s factor partner. This would be 11. We will add these factors to our list.
Last, we need to see if there are any more factors. We only have to look at the numbers that would go in between 2 and 11. In this case, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 will not evenly divide into 22 without having a remainder. If there is a remainder, then this number would not be a factor of 22.
Factors of 22 are 1, 2, 11, and 22.
In a large movie theater, there are 22 seats in a row. You have many friends. You want to divide your friends into pairs of two. How many groups will you have if all of your friends take up an entire row of seats.
Since there are 22 seats in a movie theater and you want to fill the entire row with pairs of your friends, you would need to know how many pairs of friends you can invite. Therefore, we can use the factors of 22. To do this, you will need to find the factor partner of 2. A pair means two people. From above, the partner would be 11. So, you could invite 11 pairs of friends to sit on this entire row at the movie theater.
You take a field trip to the aquarium. A sign reads that there are 22 different species of fish in all of their aquariums. However, it states that each species must have their own aquarium. If they mixed any of these fish together, they will attack another species of fish. Apparently, these are very aggressive fish that don’t get along with others. So, how many aquariums would this place need to house all of their 22 different species of dangerous fish?
Each of the 22 different species of fish can’t be in another aquarium. So, there would need to be one aquarium for each species. We need to find 1’s factor partner. In this case, it would be 22. So, there are 22 aquariums just to house these fish. That sounds like a lot. I hope the aquariums are small.
You are on a game show in which you have to answer 10 questions in under a minute to get the bonus prize of $10,000. You are now down to 22 seconds left. You also have answered 7 questions correctly already. Can you spend the same amount of time thinking and answering the number of questions you have left? Explain using the factors of 22.
You can still win the game, but you can’t allot the same amount of seconds to each of the questions that you have remaining to answer. You would have 3 questions left. Three is not a factor of 22. So, that means you would have to allot more time to some questions and less time to other questions in order to answer all the questions in the time given. However, don’t give up hope. You can still win the money.
There are 4 factors total for the number 22. They are 1, 2, 11, and 22. There are two sets because 1 and 22 go together and 2 and 11 go together.
To find the factors of 22, you will need to see if each number between 1 and 22 can evenly divide into 22 without getting a remainder. Obviously, 1 and 22 are factors, but there are probably more. To make sure you don’t miss any, divide each of the 22 numbers into 22 to make sure you got all of the factors.
Any math problem could require you to use the factors of a number like 22. So, that is a possibility about when you will need to know the factors of 22. However, there are a few things that might come in groups of 22. There are not a lot, but there are times when there might be 22 students in a class or 22 years if you are talking about a person’s life.
